Allah’s Apostle said, “I and the one who looks after an orphan will be like this in Paradise,” show –
ing his middle and index fingers and separating them.

When Abu Usaid As-Sa’idi got married, he invited the Prophet and his companions. None pre –
pared the food for them and brought it to them but his wife. She soaked some dates in water in a
stone pot overnight, and when the Prophet had finished his food, she provided him with that drink
(of soaked dates).

A woman came to the Prophet,, and presented herself to him (for marriage). He said, “I am not in
need of women these days.” Then a man said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Marry her to me.” The Prophet asked
him, “What have you got?” He said, “I have got nothing.” The Prophet said, “Give her something, even
an iron ring.” He said, “I have got nothing.” The Prophet asked (him), “How much of the Quran do
you know (by heart)?” He said, “So much and so much.” The Prophet said, “I have married her to you
for what you know of the Quran.”
Volume 7, Book 62, Number 28:
Narrated Sahl:
A man passed by Allah’s Apostle and Allah s Apostle asked (his companions) “What do you say
about this (man)?” They replied “If he asks for a lady’s hand, he ought to be given her in marriage;
and if he intercedes (for someone) his intercessor should be accepted; and if he speaks, he should be
listened to.” Allah’s Apostle kept silent, and then a man from among the poor Muslims passed by, an
Allah’s Apostle asked (them) “What do you say about this man?” They replied, “If he asks for a lady’s
hand in marriage he does not deserve to be married, and he intercedes (for someone), his interces –
sion should not be accepted; And if he speaks, he should not be listened to.’ Allah’s Apostle said, “This
poor man is better than so many of the first as filling the earth.’

Allah’s Apostle came to us while we were digging the trench and carrying out the earth on our
backs. Allah’s Apostle then said, “O Allah ! There is no life except the life of the Hereafter, so please
forgive the Emigrants and the Ansar.”

Volume 4, Book 52, Number 253:
Narrated Sahl:
On the day (of the battle) of Khaibar the Prophet said, “Tomorrow I will give the flag to somebody
who will be given victory (by Allah) and who loves Allah and His Apostle and is loved by Allah and
His Apostle.” So, the people wondered all that night as to who would receive the flag and in the
morning everyone hoped that he would be that person. Allah’s Apostle asked, “Where is ‘Ali?” He was
told that ‘Ali was suffering from eye-trouble, so he applied saliva to his eyes and invoked Allah to
cure him. He at once got cured as if he had no ailment. The Prophet gave him the flag. ‘Ali said,
“Should I fight them till they become like us (i.e. Muslim)?” The Prophet said, “Go to them patiently
and calmly till you enter the land. Then, invite them to Islam, and inform them what is enjoined
upon them, for, by Allah, if Allah gives guidance to somebody through you, it is better for you than
possessing red camels.”
Volume 4, Book 52, Number 152:
Narrated Sahl:
When the helmet of the Prophet was smashed on his head and blood covered his face and one of
his front teeth got broken, ‘Ali brought the water in his shield and Fatima the Prophet’s daughter)
washed him. But when she saw that the bleeding increased more by the water, she took a mat, burnt
it, and placed the ashes on the wound of the Prophet and so the blood stopped oozing out.
Volume 4, Book 52, Number 159:
Narrated Sahl:
That he was asked about the wound of the Prophet on the day (of the battle) of Uhud. He said, “The
face of the Prophet as wounded and one of his front teeth as broken and the helmet over his head
was smashed. Fatima washed of the blood while Ali held water. When she saw that bleeding was in –
creasing continuously, she burnt a mat (of date-palm leaves) till it turned into ashes which she put
over the wound and thus the bleeding ceased.”
