Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 425

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 425:
Narrated ‘Aisha:
When the Prophet became ill, some of his wives talked about a church which they had seen in
Ethiopia and it was called Mariya. Um Salma and Um Habiba had been to Ethiopia, and both of them
narrated its (the Church’s) beauty and the pictures it contained. The Prophet raised his head and
said, “Those are the people who, whenever a pious man dies amongst them, make a place of worship

at his grave and then they make those pictures in it. Those are the worst creatures in the Sight of Al –
lah.”

Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 441

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 441:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah
Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity or Magainism, as an animal delivers a
perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?” Then Abu Huraira recited the holy verses: “The pure
Allah’s Islamic nature (true faith of Islam) (i.e. worshipping none but Allah) with which He has cre –
ated human beings. No change let there be in the religion of Allah (i.e. joining none in worship with
Allah). That is the straight religion (Islam) but most of men know, not.” (30.30)

Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 426

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 426:
Narrated Anas:
We were in the funeral procession of the daughter of Allah’s Apostle and Allah’s Apostle was sit –
ting near the grave and I saw his eyes full of tears. He said, “Is there anyone amongst you who did
not have sexual relations with his wife last night?” Abu Talha replied in the affirmative. And so Al –
lah’s Apostle told him to get down in her grave and he got down in her grave and buried her.

Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 442

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 442:
Narrated Said bin Al-Musaiyab from his father:
When the time of the death of Abu Talib approached, Allah’s Apostle went to him and found Abu
Jahl bin Hisham and ‘Abdullah bin Abi Umaiya bin Al-Mughira by his side. Allah’s Apostle said to
Abu Talib, “O uncle! Say: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, a sentence with which I
shall be a witness (i.e. argue) for you before Allah. Abu Jahl and ‘Abdullah bin Abi Umaiya said, “O
Abu Talib! Are you going to denounce the religion of Abdul Muttalib?” Allah’s Apostle kept on invit –
ing Abu Talib to say it (i.e. ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah’) while they (Abu Jahl and
Abdullah) kept on repeating their statement till Abu Talib said as his last statement that he was on
the religion of Abdul Muttalib and refused to say, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.’
(Then Allah’s Apostle said, “I will keep on asking Allah’s forgiveness for you unless I am forbidden (by
Allah) to do so.” So Allah revealed (the verse) concerning him (i.e. It is not fitting for the Prophet and
those who believe that they should invoke (Allah) for forgiveness for pagans even though they be of
kin, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of the fire (9.113).

Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 427

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 427:
Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah:
The Prophet collected every two martyrs of Uhud in one piece of cloth, then he would ask, “Which
of them had (knew) more of the Quran?” When one of them was pointed out for him, he would put
that one first in the grave and say, “I will be a witness on these on the Day of Resurrection.” He
ordered them to be buried with their blood on their bodies and they were neither washed nor was a
funeral prayer offered for them.

Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 428

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 428:
Narrated ‘Uqba bin ‘Amir:
One day the Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayers of the martyrs of Uhud and then
went up the pulpit and said, “I will pave the way for you as your predecessor and will be a witness on
you. By Allah! I see my Fount (Kauthar) just now and I have been given the keys of all the treasures
of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that you will worship others along
with Allah after my death, but I am afraid that you will fight with one another for the worldly
things.”

Volume 2 Book 23 Hadith 430

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 430:
Narrated Jabir:

The Prophet said, “Bury them (i.e. martyrs) with their blood.” (that was) On the day of the Battle of
Uhud. He did not get them washed.
