The second claimant – who was wiser than him – said: 'Yes, judge between us according to the Book of Allah, but let me speak.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Speak.' He said: 'My son was employed by this man, and he committed Zinâ with his wife. I was told that my son should be stoned, but I ransomed him for one hundred sheep and a slave girl. I asked the people of knowledge and they told me that my son should be given one hundred lashes and be exiled for one year, and that this man's wife should be stoned.' The Messenger of Allah ij said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I will judge between you according to the Book of Allah. The slave girl and the sheep should be given back, and your son should be given one hundred lashes and exiled for one year. Tomorrow, 0 Unais, go to the wife of this man, and if she admits it, then stone her.' "The next day he went to her, and she admitted it, so the Messenger of Allah ç ordered that she be stoned."
